Plot

Set in the vibrant heart of 1965 Philadelphia, where the rhythm of rock and roll pulsates through the air, our story revolves around Del Green - an honor student and a “good boy” from the suburbs. Del's life takes a dramatic twist when he lands a spot on Perry Parker's Dance Party, a local television show riding the wave of the day's hit parade. This platform, adored by teenagers, is home to the charismatic in-crowd dancers, a world where fame is fickle and popularity is a cutthroat game. Vicky and Dugan, the show's most sought-after dancers and sweethearts, are the envy of many, including Del, who only ever admired them from the safety of his living room. Seizing an opportunity, Del surreptitiously fills in for an absent Dugan, dancing with Vicky, and winning over not just the audience, but also Perry and the show's producers. Awed by Del's unexpected charm, Perry sees this as the perfect opportunity to boost the show's dwindling ratings. He orchestrates an off-screen romance between Del and Vicky, mirroring their on-screen chemistry, a move that does not sit well with Dugan. Thrust into this new world of adoring fans, envious rivals, and the intoxicating allure of Vicky, Del grapples with his sudden fame. His ascent to stardom strains old friendships, particularly with Gail Goran, his oldest friend and next-door neighbor. As the line between his old life and new one begins to blur, Del is forced to confront the realities of his new world and make choices about what truly matters. The In Crowd is a captivating tale of ambition, rivalry, and the price of fame, set against the backdrop of the pulsating 60s’ rock and roll scene. It explores the intoxicating allure of popularity and the hard choices one must make when caught in its heady rush.
