Plot

In the tumultuous year of 1973, Sydney Schanberg, a hard-nosed reporter for the New York Times, finds himself in the throes of the Cambodian civil war. United with local journalist Dith Pran, they plunge into the heart of the conflict, documenting the tragedy and madness that unfolds in the war-ravaged landscape. As the men navigate the bloody chaos, a bond of friendship solidifies, extending to their respective families. As the war escalates and the American forces prepare to withdraw, Schanberg, using his influential position, secures exit visas for Pran's family, ensuring their escape from the impending doom. Pran, however, chooses to stay behind, standing by Schanberg as they continue to chronicle the unfolding crisis. But when the ruthless Khmer Rouge seizes control, Schanberg and other western journalists are evacuated, leaving Pran in the merciless grasp of the new regime. With Pran's life dangling on the precipice of danger, Schanberg, now safe in New York, embarks on an unwavering 4.5-year campaign to rescue his friend. The Killing Fields is a gripping tale of friendship and survival, capturing the raw essence of human resilience against the backdrop of a country plunged into the abyss of war.
