Plot

In the bustling metropolis of New York, esteemed scholar Dr. Norman Boyle finds himself inheriting the enigmatic research of his late colleague, Dr. Petersen. The subject is the mysterious Dr. Freudstein, whose work is shrouded in dark intrigue. Dr. Petersen's life ended in a tragic suicide, following a gruesome act of passion that saw him murder his mistress. Eager to delve into this cryptic research, Boyle, alongside his wife Lucy and their young son Bob, uproots to Boston. Their new home is a forbidding house nestled within the woods, the former dwelling of the ill-fated Dr. Petersen. Bob, a curious child, quickly befriends a spectral girl named Mae, a secretive companion that only he can perceive. Mae's foreboding warnings about their new home fall on deaf ears, an ignored omen of the eerie events soon to unfold. As strange occurrences seep into their existence, the family hires Ann, a babysitter whose mystifying aura only adds to the growing tension. The house, with its creaking timbers and echoing halls, hides a chilling secret, most notably within its sinister basement. When young Bob ventures into this forbidden space, his parents are confronted with the terrifying truth that lurks beneath their new home. As the Boyle family's idyllic relocation transforms into a nightmarish reality, they must face the haunting legacy of Dr. Freudstein. This tale of horror and mystery will leave viewers on the edge of their seats, wondering what lies within The House by the Cemetery.
