Plot

In the heart of a captivating hillside mansion, the lives of two desolate men intertwine in an unexpected tale of friendship and survival. Calvin, a reckless alcoholic, finds himself jobless after losing his grounds-keeping role at a local golf course. With the aid of his wily charm, he scares away a string of potential applicants, securing a job tending the breathtaking grounds of the mansion. This opulent property is owned by Jack, a reclusive and heartbroken man, whose soul has been shackled by sorrow since his wife abandoned him for a past lover. As the veil of night falls over the mansion, Calvin, in a drunken stupor, inadvertently stumbles upon Jack, teetering on the precipice of self-destruction with a gun to his head. In a strange twist of fate, Calvin becomes Jack's unexpected savior, convincing him to cling to his reclusive lifestyle over succumbing to despair. Bound by their shared tendency to evade their past than confront it, an unlikely camaraderie blossoms between them. They find solace in their shared loneliness, using diversion and alcohol as their shields against the pain of their histories. But as the specters of their pasts refuse to be silenced, their fledgling friendship and their personal fortitude are put to the ultimate test. "The Grounds" (2018) is a stirring narrative of human connection, of two damaged souls finding solace in shared solitude, and of the resilience of the human spirit amidst life's darkest hours.
