Plot

In the heart of Broadway's buzzing scene, Paula McFadden, a seasoned dancer, and her vivacious daughter, Lucy, are taken aback when they discover that Paula's elusive lover has skipped town for Europe, leaving them amidst an unexpected surprise - their apartment has been sublet to a zealous Chicago actor, Elliot Garfield. This isn't the first time Paula has been left in the lurch, her past littered with unpredictable goodbyes. Her resolve to steer clear of actors, however, is challenged as she comes face-to-face with Elliot. In the labyrinth of their shared quarters, both Paula and Elliot, each fiercely protective of their space, are unprepared to accept the other's claim to the apartment. Yet, in the face of their clashing personalities and relentless disagreements, they grudgingly agree to cohabit. Their domestic battlefield is fraught with tension, but there's an underlying current of unexpected camaraderie that grows with each passing day. When Elliot's theatrical dreams crumble with the failure of his play, Paula finds herself unexpectedly moved. Despite her hardened vow to keep actors at arm's length, the raw vulnerability of Elliot's disappointment draws her in. Their shared living space becomes less of a battleground and more of an unexpected sanctuary, where two disparate lives intertwine amidst the drama of the New York stage and the echoes of the goodbye girl's past.
