In the tumultuous year of 1882, as his regiment prepares to clash swords with insurgent Arab tribes in the Sudan, British Lieutenant Faversham makes a seemingly cowardly choice. He relinquishes his officer's commission, choosing to stay behind in the comforting embrace of England, accompanying his soon-to-be-bride, Ethne. His decision, however, is met with scorn from his comrades and his beloved, who label him a coward, symbolized by the presentation of the white feathers of cowardice. Embarking on a quest to reclaim his tarnished honor, Lieutenant Faversham ventures incognito into the hostile terrains of the Sudan.
