Plot

In the heart of the Roaring Twenties, a cornet-wielding country lad named Loring "Red" Nichols swaps rural simplicity for the pulsating rhythms of New York City. Fueled by his musical aspirations and steadfast principles, he lands a gig with Wil Paradise's band. However, Red's heart beats for the vibrant echoes of Dixieland jazz, leading him to abandon Paradise's band and form his own ensemble, "The Five Pennies," starring his charming wife Bobbie as the lead vocalist. Their harmonious journey scales the peak of fame, but it's not long before their world is shaken by a harsh reality. Their beloved daughter, Dorothy, contracts polio, causing Red to hit pause on his thriving musical career. Seeking a healthier environment for their ailing child, the family relocates to the sun-soaked city of Los Angeles. As Dorothy grows into a spirited teenager, she uncovers her father's illustrious past in music, prompting him to venture once again into the world of entertainment. He inaugurates a modest nightclub, initially struggling to stay afloat. However, the tides begin to turn when some renowned figures from his musical heyday step in to lend a hand, reviving Red's dormant dreams and offering a glimmer of hope.
