Plot

In the quaint harbor town of Weymouth, a middle-aged American, Simon Wells, unexpectedly crosses paths with the youthful Joan. Initially mistaking her for a lady of the night, Simon is unaware that Joan is a pawn in a motorcycle gang's devious scheme to prey on unsuspecting tourists. This misjudgment leads him into a brutal encounter with Joan's overbearing brother, King, and his ruthless gang, leaving Simon battered and bruised. An unexpected refuge is found in a local bar where Simon meets Bernard, a military man, and his enigmatic mistress, Freya Neilson. As the dawn breaks, Joan, seeking to defy her domineering brother, joins Simon on his boat, triggering a relentless hunt by King and his gang. In their desperate bid to escape, the pair inadvertently stumble upon a top-secret military facility overseen by Bernard. Inside, they discover a chilling secret: children who are inexplicably cold to the touch, seemingly deadened by their existence. These children, born "naturally" radioactive, are being groomed to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, a fallout of the imminent third atomic world war. Raised in an underground bunker, they are deceived into believing they are on a spaceship bound for Earth, which they are destined to colonize. However, the military project is marred by a high mortality rate among these special children, casting a shadow over its success. As King, too, finds himself ensnared by the military due to a mishap at sea, a chilling confrontation looms. Simon and Joan, now privy to the horrifying secret, fight to free the children from their doomed fate, leading to an intense climax laden with psychological horror and unexpected revelations. "The Damned" (1962) is a chilling exploration of human resilience, the thirst for power, and the innocent lives caught in the crossfire of sinister machinations. It juxtaposes the serene beauty of Weymouth with the dark underbelly of conspiracy, crime, and cold-blooded ambition, creating a captivating narrative that lingers long after the credits roll.
