Max Simkin comes from a long line of cobblers, but he's grown tired of doing the same family business every day of his life. But when he picks up a stitcher belonging to his dad, he realizes it has the magical power to literally let him step into the lives of the people who's shoes he's repairing. The opportunity to live any life he's dreamed of is exhilarating at first, but he also comes to recognize the things in his life that he truly treasures. And an intimidating gangster demonstrates that the rush of excitement isn't always a good thing.
