In the heart of a secluded village in 14th-century Wales, a tale of witchcraft, plague, and revenge unfolds. Sixteen-year-old Alice finds herself at the epicenter of this maelstrom, vilified as a witch and blamed for the plague that has decimated her village, including her own father. When her concealed care for her plague-stricken mother comes to light, she's forced to witness the chilling spectacle of The Cleanser, a foreboding figure in a mask, ruthlessly extinguishing her mother's life. The village's spiritual guide and self-appointed overseer, Tom, harbors sinister feelings for Alice. After she rejects his unwanted overtures, he subjects her to a quintet of agonizing trials. On the eve of her execution, she makes a daring escape with the aid of her mother's confidante, Mary, and plunges into the safety of the forest. In the depth of this wilderness, Alice stumbles upon the remote dwelling of an enigmatic healer, burdened with his own haunting past and personal demons. As he nurses her back to health, he imparts the knowledge she needs to retaliate against those who wronged her.
