The Beckoning (2009)

In the shadows of 1947, three innocent girls at a secluded Catholic boarding school claim to witness an apparition of the Virgin Mary, professing her power to heal the ailing. Fast forward fifty years, the house, now aged and whispering with secrets, is home to the Catholic Bishop, who rests in eternal slumber. The house is then rented to the caring pediatrician Francesca and her husband Pedro, both medical practitioners, who seek refuge in the countryside to raise their newborn, Pablo. As Francesca grapples with postpartum depression, the once serene house morphs into an arena of haunting silence. The attic above and the basement below, locked and out of bounds, hold secrets that the Church promises to unearth. The nocturnal whispers from these forbidden corners and the spectral shadows dancing in the corners of her eyes begin to gnaw at Francesca's already fraught nerves. Her obsession with baby Pablo spirals, threatening to shroud her in a cloak of insanity, despite the desperate attempts of her husband Pedro and psychiatrist friend, Jean, to anchor her to reality. Meanwhile, Priest Miguel, a psychiatrist familiar with the mind's labyrinth, discharges Blanca, a patient who had slumbered in a Catholic institution for fifty years. Upon crossing paths with Francesca, Blanca introduces her to Priest Miguel. As Francesca unravels her fears to the priest, a chilling revelation about the house emerges, amplifying the crescendo of her impending madness. Straddling the line between the supernatural and psychological, "The Beckoning" (2009) is a tale of faith, fear, and the relentless pursuit of sanity.
