Plot

In the heart of Texas, Eulis 'Sonny' Dewey is a passionate preacher, basking in the warmth of a happy life with his charming wife, Jessie. However, his tranquil world is abruptly shattered when he discovers Jessie's infidelity with a young minister named Horace. In a fit of unbridled rage, Sonny assaults Horace with a softball bat, plunging him into a coma and himself into a maelstrom of guilt and consequences. In the aftermath, Sonny flees, seeking refuge in the vibrant yet unfamiliar landscapes of Louisiana. He reinvents himself as Apostle E.F., finding employment as a mechanic under the gruff yet kind-hearted local radio station owner, Elmo. It's here that Sonny begins to heal, his fiery sermons echoing through the airwaves and into the hearts of the locals. Apostle E.F. becomes a spiritual beacon, his words resonating from the radio, on the streets, and in the company of his newfound friend, Reverend Blackwell. Together, they ignite a crusade to breathe life back into a decrepit church, serving as a beacon of hope for the impoverished and overlooked. However, as Sonny's influence grows, so does the shadow of his past. Despite his newfound purpose and the impact of his good deeds, he finds himself facing the inevitable reckoning for his past crime. Yet, even in the face of adversity, Sonny's love for God and his fervor for preaching remain unshaken, painting a compelling portrait of redemption and faith.
