The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders (1965)

Stepping straight out of the pages of Daniel Defoe's 1722 novel, the audacious English adventuress Moll Flanders (Kim Novak) embarks on a whirlwind of escapades in 18th-century England. Initially, she serves as a maid in a household teeming with libidinous males, marrying the somewhat dim-witted, alcoholic younger son, a man more interested in his bottle than his beautiful bride. Moll, too demure to disclose the truth about her marriage, cryptically confides in her friends, "Modesty forbids me to reveal the secrets of the marriage bed." Her journey then leads her to cross paths with a wealthy banker (George Sanders), after which she ascends the social ladder, becoming a lady's maid to an esteemed Count (Vittorio De Sica) and his Lady. Moll's heart, however, is captivated by the banker's wealth, leading her to marry him, only to leave him on their wedding night. In a surprising twist, Moll aligns herself with a band of thieves, where she meets and falls for the dashing James "Jemmy" Seagrave (Richard Johnson). This newfound alliance sees her transform into an invaluable asset for the bandits, until fate intervenes and Moll is imprisoned. Upon her release, she is reunited with Jemmy, and together they embark on a journey to America. Meanwhile, the banker, left behind, suffers a fortuitous heart attack before he can alter his will, leaving Moll's story as unpredictable as it is thrilling.
