In the sultry twilight of an ocean-side city, Christine Faber, a millionaire widow, finds herself haunted by the memories of her late husband, Paul, who perished in a fiery car explosion two years prior. Her heart stirs at the echoes of his voice, carried by the nocturnal whispers of the surf, as she walks the beach towards the home of Martin Abbott, her suitor and dedicated attorney who longs to propose marriage. But the past refuses to rest, and Christine's path crosses with the enigmatic and darkly charismatic Alexis, a self-proclaimed spiritualist. Alexis, with his uncanny knowledge of Christine's past and enthralling tales of the spirit world, ensnares her in a web of fascination. As she becomes increasingly obsessed with his spectral allure, her younger sister, Janet Burke, too, succumbs to Alexis's hypnotic charm.
