The Alibi (2006)

Meet Ray Elliott, a former con man who has traded in his dubious past for a veneer of respectability. Running Elliott Consulting, a seemingly benign firm specializing in financial risk assessment, Ray operates in a realm of deception. The true nature of his business: orchestrating intricate alibis for philandering spouses, grounded in the belief that the act of cheating is not what shatters marriages, but the damning discovery of it. Ray's clientele is a diverse mix of husbands, wives, straight, and homosexual individuals. He firmly refuses to dip his toes into criminal waters or cases fueled by revenge. His past as a con man, though, is never far behind, especially when news of his former partner, Jack McCaddem, being hunted for a five-million-dollar bounty, reaches him. Ray's first and wealthiest client, Robert Hatch, is a serial adulterer with a substantial fortune, courtesy of his wife Judith. Robert's son, Wendell, soon becomes Ray's concern when he desires a pre-wedding dalliance with Heather Price, a woman already entangled in a relationship. Wendell, an apple not fallen far from the philandering tree, inadvertently becomes involved in a potential murder case, forcing Ray to compromise his ethical boundaries to shield himself from implicated fallout. Detective Bryce of the Santa Barbara Police Department, a persistent bloodhound, is hot on Ray's trail. Amid the chaos, Ray encounters "The Mormon", an ageing hitman with a penchant for polygamy and a desire to procure Ray's services. As Ray navigates his growing feelings for his ambitious new associate, Lola, he simultaneously fends off Adelle, the youngest and most sexually audacious of The Mormon's wives. The waters only turn murkier when The Mormon becomes entwined in the missing woman case and a mysterious balding man enters the scene, his lethal intent evident. As Ray grapples with a vengeful boyfriend, a disgruntled client, a relentless detective, a potential love interest, and a dangerous hitman, he must rely on his con skills to escape the labyrinth of complications he finds himself in. Will Ray manage to untangle this web of deceit and survive, or will his past finally catch up to him in the most fatal of ways?
