In the bustling heart of London, Richard Hannay, a mining engineer vacationing from the rugged African colonies, finds himself lost amidst the monotonous humdrum of high-society life. However, his world takes an unexpected turn when Scudder, a covert operative, invades his solitude, entrusting him with a cryptic notebook and map, filled with secrets that foretell the looming onset of World War I.
