Plot

In the midst of the glitz and glamour of Hollywood's Four Star Studios, a crisis brews. Attendance is plunging, and the studio's fictional head, J.D. Forbes, is desperate for a fresh direction. In a decidedly unorthodox move, he sets his sights on the charismatic band leader, Kay Kyser, a man renowned for his down-to-earth radio and live theatre show, "The Kollege of Musical Knowledge". Lured by the tantalizing prospect of working in the movie industry, the band members, including Ginny Simms, Sully Mason, Ish Kabiddle, and Harry Babbitt, are eager to make the transition. But their leader, Kay, is hesitant, guided by his old grandmother's advice to stay in his own backyard. This enchanting blend of fact and fiction blurs the lines as real-life characters play themselves in a fictional landscape. However, the transition from radio to film is fraught with challenges. The studio's associate producer, the brusque but well-meaning Stacey Delmore, quickly realizes that the grandiose script penned by writers Tom Village and Dwight Cook is ill-suited for the unpretentious Kay. It paints him as a suave lover in an exotic European setting - a far cry from his true persona. As Delmore navigates the treacherous world of script rewrites and press conferences, the band grapples with the ruthless and often surreal world of Hollywood. "That's Right - You're Wrong" is a splendid cinematic concoction of real names in fictional roles, a radio sensation navigating the movie world, and the chaotic charm of Hollywood's golden era. It's a captivating journey that delves into the heart of the entertainment industry, showing both its allure and its madness.
