In the heart of World War II's southern California, the brash yet charming Brian "Breezy" McLaughlin serves as a test pilot for Victory Aircraft, a vital cog in the military machinery. Stripped of his dream to fly for the air force due to a bureaucratic intervention by his boss, Breezy inadvertently disrupts the career of vivacious club performer, Maisie Ravier. Unfazed, Maisie shifts her aspirations towards supporting the war effort, landing a job on the bustling swing shift assembly line at Victory. Their lives intertwining, Breezy and Maisie dance on the precipice of romance, their burgeoning relationship complicated by the arrival of Iris Reed, Maisie's new roommate.
