In the quiet corners of the Midwest, a small town named Centreville witnesses an event of cosmic proportions - a spacecraft descends, and the town's population mysteriously vanishes. Years later, Charles Bigelow, an unsuspecting city dweller, is thrust into this web of interstellar intrigue when his ex-wife leaves their daughter under his care to attend her mother's funeral in Centerville, only to disappear without a trace. Propelled by concern and curiosity, Charles embarks on a journey to Centerville in search of his ex-wife. However, he is greeted by peculiar townsfolk and an unsettling sense of amnesia - no one seems to remember his ex-wife, nor her extensive family, the Newmans. The town's odd demeanor escalates into an unnerving attack that sends Charles fleeing back to the sanctuary of New York. Back in the city, Charles stumbles upon a supermarket tabloid that reports his outlandish story. Intrigued and desperate, he seeks the aid of the tabloid's spirited editor, Betty Walker. Their partnership is forged in the fires of adversity when Betty too is attacked, solidifying their resolve. Unbeknownst to them, their alliance thrusts them into a chase led by the very aliens that have infiltrated Centerville. In the face of skepticism from authorities and peril at every turn, Charles and Betty must unravel the extraterrestrial mystery, hoping to rescue his ex-wife from the alien beings' grasp. The fate of Centerville hangs in the balance as they tread the thin line between the ordinary and the extraordinary, the terrestrial and the extraterrestrial.
