Plot

In the twilight of his career, Jack Mabry (Robert De Niro), a world-weary parole officer, finds himself entangled in a web of manipulation and deceit as he prepares for his impending retirement. His last assignment is a daunting one - the case of Gerald "Stone" Creeson (Edward Norton), an unrepentant arsonist convicted of a chilling crime: setting a fire to mask the brutal death of his grandparents. Stone's relentless pursuit of freedom leads him to craft a dangerous scheme, roping in his audacious wife, Lucetta (Milla Jovovich), as a seductive pawn. Jack, a man tortured by the moral decay he sees daily, is initially resistant to Stone's crude attempts at rapport and his appeals for early release. However, the boundaries of professional duty and personal integrity blur when Lucetta begins her seductive assault, aiming to influence Jack's crucial decision. As Jack navigates this treacherous labyrinth, his devoted wife, Madylyn (Frances Conroy), bears the brunt of his internal turmoil, her life shadowed by the emotional toll of her husband's high-stakes profession. As the days to Stone's parole hearing count down, the characters become entwined in a deadly game of deception, their hidden motives surfacing and their intentions becoming indistinguishable amidst a whirlwind of passion and buried secrets. Directed by John J. Curran and based on a riveting play by Angus MacLachlan, "Stone" is a journey into the heart of darkness where freedom is the ultimate prize and the cost of redemption runs high.
