Plot

In the heart of the 1950s, renowned artist Stuart Anderson leads his unique family across America's vast landscape, seeking the captivating scenes that fuel his artistry. This nomadic existence, while inspiring for Stuart, proves tiresome for his children, particularly the 15-year-old Tamara, yearning for stability amidst the constant upheaval. Their latest destination is a quaint rural town, steeped in tradition and conservatism. The Anderson family steps into a house haunted by its former occupants' tragic past, a gifted boy who succumbed to leukemia, leading to the hasty exit of the bereaved family. Alongside her siblings, Robert and Megan, Tamara starts to feel a sense of belonging. She's drawn to the town's idyllic simplicity, tasting of Christian faith and her blossoming love for the boy-next-door, Rusty Murphy. However, just as Tamara starts to relish in her newfound normalcy, their world is once again shaken. Their mother is diagnosed with advanced tuberculosis and institutionalized. Fear and superstition grip the town, and the Anderson house earns a reputation of being cursed, isolating the family further. Forced to mature beyond her years, Tamara becomes the pillar holding her family together. Set against the backdrop of a conservative 1950s America, "Some Things That Stay" is a poignant coming-of-age tale. It explores the trials of adolescence, the strength of family, the courage to face adversity, the power of forgiveness, and the indomitable spirit of a young girl finding her place in a constantly changing world.
