Plot

In the bustling cityscape of Edinburgh, 2019, Eva, an accomplished Spanish lawyer, is on the cusp of a captivating life transformation. She is engaged to Stuart, the scion of the affluent and aristocratic Macdonald clan. Yet, the joyous proclamation of their engagement is disrupted by an unexpected call from Eva's grandmother, Sofia. The news? Sofia is set to marry her lifelong companion, Celia. Eva sees this as a potential impediment to her rise in the Macdonald's conservative society, desiring a life sheltered from her unconventionally charismatic family. In a desperate bid to halt the wedding, Eva ventures to the sun-kissed Canary Islands, off Africa's west coast but part of Spain, where Sofia and Celia reside. Upon her arrival, Eva encounters a stranger who assists her after a missed bus connection - unbeknownst to her, this man is Jorge, Celia’s son who is an anthropologist in Congo’s Virunga. After a nine-year absence, Jorge is more comfortable with gorillas than people. Now, he finds himself embroiled in Eva's mission to halt the wedding, motivated by the potential scandal of Celia’s claim about the Pope’s approval. As the plot thickens, Eva’s family gathers, from her supportive mother Natasha to her converted Islamic brother Said, who is engaged to Salima. Amid religious debates, TV interviews, and unexpected revelations about Stuart’s family, the family's eccentricities come to the fore. Jorge, witnessing Celia's pure joy, begins to question Eva's motives, while Eva grapples with burgeoning feelings for Jorge. Just when the situation spirals out of control, Sofia calls off the wedding, heartbroken by Celia's actions. However, a broadcasted interview and a consequential call from the bishop stirs the pot again. Set against the backdrop of familial chaos and personal revelations, "So My Grandma's a Lesbian!" is a vibrant exploration of love, acceptance, and the courage to be true to oneself, no matter the odds.
