In the twilight of the Ching Dynasty, a shadowy menace looms over China's martial arts world. The deadly Eagle Claw society, a 200-year-old clan, has systematically eradicated every martial art style but one: the elusive Snake Fist. The malevolent Eagle Claw master, Lord Sheng Kuan, is consumed with a relentless obsession to obliterate the last remnants of the Snake Fist lineage. As the infamous Sheng Kuan and his clan relentlessly hunt the surviving Snake Fist practitioners, the last known grandmaster, Pai Cheng-Tien, adopts the guise of a beggar, disappearing into the underbelly of a town teeming with Sheng Kuan's henchmen.
Chien Fu, a friendless orphan and bullied janitor at a local kung fu school, knows nothing of martial arts. His only solace lies with his cat, his sole companion in a world that has shown him no kindness. When he stumbles upon the seemingly helpless Pai Cheng-Tien, beset by rivals from the Eagle Claw school, he steps in to help. Though he lacks the skills to fight, this interaction presents him with a front-row experience of Cheng-Tien's incredibly effective combat style.
Recognizing Chien Fu's courage and potential, Pai Cheng-Tien takes him under his wing, teaching him the intricate dance of the Snake Fist to help him stand against future confrontations. But as Chien Fu's training progresses, he melds it with an element of his own - the fluid grace and unpredictability of his cat's movements. This hybrid style becomes his signature, a unique mixture of the Snake Fist and feline agility.
However, the profound transformation in Chien Fu does not go unnoticed. When the town's tranquility is shattered by the arrival of the vicious Sheng Kuan, searching for the elusive beggar, Chien Fu is thrust into a deadly confrontation. Now, it's up to him to defend his mentor and stand against the overwhelming might of the Eagle Claw society, armed only with his newfound skills and the spirit of a warrior. Will his unique form of martial arts be enough to survive the Eagle's Claw, or will he become the final casualty in their quest for dominance?
