Plot

Set against the backdrop of 16th century Florence, "Sin" unravels the story of the famed artist, Michelangelo Buonarroti (Alberto Testone). Despite his recognition as a genius, Michelangelo grapples with poverty and exhaustion, driven to the brink by his relentless endeavour to complete the Sistine Chapel's ceiling. The death of his patron, Pope Julius II, head of the distinguished Della Rovere family, triggers an obsession within Michelangelo to find the perfect marble to complete the Pope's tomb. However, his loyalty is put through a crucible when Leo X of the rival Medici clan ascends to the papacy and entrusts him with a lucrative project - the façade of the San Lorenzo basilica. Caught in a web of deception to keep both families appeased, Michelangelo spirals into a vortex of suspicion and hallucinations, compelling him to confront his own ethical and artistic shortcomings. "Sin", a cinematic masterpiece by Andrei Konchalovsky, is a riveting exploration of the torment and triumph associated with personal greatness, and a profound glimpse into the human essence behind the iconic legend of the Renaissance.
