Saawariya (2007)

In the heart of a charming little town, a homeless and orphaned lad, Ranbir Raj, weaves his tale. Seeking solace in the ambient RK Bar, he orders a simple glass of milk, his first interaction with the town's vibrant characters, including Gulabji, a warm-hearted prostitute. Despite her offer to share a roof for the night, Ranbir finds himself led to Lillian, a woman harbouring a lonely existence for 37 years after her son’s mysterious disappearance. Captivated by Ranbir's charm, Lillian rents him a room, and he soon finds employment as a singer in a local eatery. Ranbir’s life takes a turn on the day of Eid when he encounters an enchanting woman, Sakina, on a bridge. Intrigued by her allure, he walks her home, getting to know her as a carpet weaver living with her aunt and blind grandmother. Just as he is poised to declare his growing affections, Sakina reveals her heart already belongs to Imaan, a former tenant who pledged to return on Eid but has yet to make his appearance. In a twist of fate, Sakina entrusts Ranbir with a letter for Imaan, leading him to the Momim Lodge. Yet, no one by the name of Imaan has ever resided there, sparking a glimmer of hope in Ranbir's heart. He embarks on a quest to win over Sakina, his motives as pure as the town’s milky moonlight. As two souls intertwine in this dream-like setting, the question remains - will Ranbir succeed in his pursuit of love or will Sakina remain forever in the shadow of Imaan's promise?
