A Scanner Darkly (2006)

In the near future, the United States has developed into a totalitarian state. Bob Arctor is a cop undercover with a group of users of a drug known as Substance D. The source of this mysterious narcotic is unknown, but Arctor is hoping that following its users will eventually lead him to them. Only Bob's handler knows of his existence, and that means there's little support when his use of Substance D begins to warp Bob's sense of reality entirely. Soon Bob doesn't know who he can trust. He doesn't even trust that he can know what's reality and what's a hallucination.
