Restoration (1995)

In the shadowed halls of 17th-century England, young and ambitious Robert Merivel ascends from the obscure life of a physician to the dazzling heights of King Charles II's court. His medical prowess saves the life of the King's adored spaniel, earning him a prestigious place among the royal entourage. The opulence of his newfound station becomes his gilded cage, as he is forced to wed the King's mistress, not for love, but to deflect the jealousy of another. The King's sole command to Merivel - to resist the allure of love - proves to be an overwhelming challenge when his heart intertwines with his newly-wed wife's.
