Plot

When NYPD cop, Remo Williams, responds to a call only to be ambushed, he is presumed dead and buried the next day. But the truth lies shrouded in a veil of mystery - Remo is very much alive, recuperating in a hospital with his appearance drastically altered. Unveiling the cloak of secrecy, a man named McCleary introduces him to the clandestine organization, CURE. Committed to battling corruption while operating outside the confines of the constitution, CURE gives Remo a new identity and a formidable mission. Remo is then thrown into the enigmatic world of Harold Smith, the cerebral head of CURE. A man who prefers the shimmering glow of computer screens and the rustle of incriminating reports over human interaction, Smith plots to dismantle the networks of the corrupt. Remo’s initiation into this covert world involves training under Chiun, a master of Sinanju, the lethal art of making murder look like an accident or natural death. As Remo grapples with Chiun's rigorous regimen, they discover a potential adversary - Grove, a defense contractor with a sinister reputation. With a trail of vanished key witnesses and investigators in his wake, Grove's new project stirs the murky waters of deceit. As Smith deploys Remo and McCleary to aid a military investigator hot on Grove's tail, Grove becomes aware of them and decides to retaliate. However, Remo's cunning outwits Grove's henchmen. Upon learning this, Smith coldly informs Remo that without substantial evidence against Grove they are helpless, and if exposed, they must vanish. As Smith and McCleary prepare for their potential fall, Remo learns that his own mentor, Chiun, is assigned to eliminate him. In this intricate game of cat and mouse, Remo and McCleary are left to gather the damning evidence against Grove while dodging the deadly shadow of their own demise. Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins is a thrilling ride based on the popular pulp series "The Destroyer," by Richard Sapir and Warren Murphy, where one man's death is simply the birth of an extraordinary adventure.
