Ranga (1982)

In the bustling city, a man named Ranga - formerly known as Ranganathan - (Rajinikanth) arrives bearing the scars of a lost sister, Laksmi (K.R.Vijaya), and the hopes of a brighter future. His search for gainful employment leads him to cross paths with a petty thief called Raju (Karate Mani). Ranga, once a man of strong principles, persuades Raju to renounce his life of crime. Raju heeds his advice, transforming into a beacon of morality. Ironically, the same Ranga who brought about this change turns to the dark side, becoming a hit-man to ensure survival in the concrete jungle. Meanwhile, Laksmi, now married into wealth and with a young son, Suresh (Master Suresh), surfaces in the city. Raju, on his path of righteousness, saves Suresh from local ruffians, and his heroic act earns him a place as Suresh's guardian. Concurrently, Ranga is hired by Ganga (Radhika) to collect money from Ravi (Ravindran), a gang leader who attempts to recruit Ranga into his fold. Ranga refuses, maintaining his independence while embracing any task that fills his pockets. The plot takes a turn when Ranga's first assignment from Ravi involves kidnapping his own nephew, Suresh. Ranga's sinister plan is thwarted by Raju, who unknowingly saves Suresh from his old friend. When the two cross paths again, Ranga is introduced to Laksmi and is unknowingly appointed as another guardian for Suresh. The web of deception tightens as Ranga reveals his true nature to Raju and his intent to kidnap Suresh yet again. As Ranga's audacious plan unfolds, it is revealed that Ravi, the gang leader, is in fact the brother-in-law of his long-lost sister, Laksmi. Ravi double-crosses Ranga, unveiling the truth about Laksmi. This revelation sets off a chain of events that leads Ranga into the clutches of Ravi's gang. A thrilling climax ensues as Raju comes to Ranga's rescue, leading to Ravi's imprisonment and a chance at redemption for Ranga. The story concludes on a hopeful note, with Ranga, his lover Ganga, his sister Laksmi, and Raju leading a peaceful life, their turbulent past finally behind them.
