In the breathtaking heights near Gangotri, Ganga Singh leads a serene life with her brother, Karam. Her life takes an unexpected turn when a young scholar, Narendra Sahay, arrives from Calcutta with fellow students to study the celestial river Ganga. Narendra, on a quest for holy water to aid his wheelchair-bound grandmother, finds more than he bargained for when he encounters Ganga. A mutual attraction blossoms and under the auspices of the Puran Mashi, they pledge their love in marriage, spending a single night of profound intimacy. As the sun rises, Narendra departs, leaving behind a promise of swift return. Yet, as the seasons change, his promise remains unfulfilled. Amidst Narendra's absence, Ganga gives birth to a son, igniting in her a fierce determination to secure a promising future for their child. Embarking on a daunting journey to Calcutta, she encounters a series of trials that test her spirit. In Rishikesh, deceived by two women and a man, Ganga narrowly escapes a dreadful fate. A brief refuge in a crematorium follows, and later in Banaras, she faces harassment from a lustful Pandit, only to be rescued by the police. An unexpected detour leaves her stranded and vulnerable, falling prey to the machinations of a feigned blind man, Manilal. He leads her to a brothel near Banaras, where the young mother is coerced into a life of servitude for the sake of her son's sustenance. Her fate intertwines with Bhagwat Choudhary, a powerful politician, who plans to keep her as his mistress alongside Jeeva Sahay in Calcutta. Unbeknownst to Ganga, the intricate web of deception grows denser as Radha, Bhagwat's daughter, is betrothed to Narendra. Jeeva, the man she is to share with Bhagwat, is revealed to be Narendra's father. The climax of her trials approaches as she is commissioned to perform at the wedding reception of her own estranged lover. The poignant journey of Ganga unfolds, revealing the depths of her resilience and the strength of a mother's love.
