Plot

In the quaint town of Point Muir, California, amidst the festive cheer of Christmas 1942, we find our protagonists, the daring and impulsive Henry "Hopper" Nash, and his reckless best friend, Nicky. These blue-collar boys, on the precipice of youth and adulthood, have enlisted in the U.S. Marines, counting down the days before they are called to serve in World War II. Nicky, in an amorous entanglement with the local girl, Sally Kaiser, treads a perilous path as her unexpected pregnancy threatens to disrupt their lives. In contrast, Henry's eyes are captured by the enchanting Caddie Winger, a newcomer to town who seems to live in the lap of luxury atop a hill. Entranced, he pursues her, oblivious to the reality that her home is not her own, but she is, in fact, the daughter of the manor's maid. As Henry and Caddie's relationship blossoms into a tender romance, they remain blissfully unaware of the turbulence brewing in their close-knit circle. Nicky's desperate need for money to help Sally forces Henry and Caddie into a vortex of trouble. Their newfound romance and the unshakable bond between Henry and Nicky are put to the ultimate test. As the clock ticks towards their impending departure, the trio must navigate love, friendship, and responsibility, racing not just with time, but also with the moon, attempting to resolve their dilemmas before the call of duty pulls them apart.
