Plot

Quill, an endearing Labrador puppy, begins his life journey under the tender care of Isamu and Mitsuko Nii, a couple who devote their lives to training guide dogs. As Quill grows, his path leads him to a guide dog school, guided by the firm yet empathetic trainer, Satoru Tawada. Despite Quill’s slower pace compared to his peers, it is his extraordinary empathy and remarkable patience that sets him apart, catching Tawada's discerning eye. Tawada sees in Quill the perfect companion for Mitsuru Watanabe, a solitary and grumpy middle-aged man whose world has shrunk to the confines of his home. However, Watanabe is far from thrilled at the prospect of being led around by a dog, preferring the comforts of his solitude. The story unfolds through the reflective narration of Watanabe's daughter, Mitsuko. The narrative delicately captures Watanabe’s transformative journey, from reluctant recipient to accepting friend of Quill. As Watanabe steps out into the world, he learns to trust not just his four-legged companion but also the world around him. Engaging and heartwarming, the movie beautifully captures the essence of companionship, trust, and the unexpected ways life can lead us to new beginnings.
