Picking Up the Pieces (2000)

In the heart of America, Tex Cowley, an average-looking, kosher butcher, lives a life steeped in the ordinary. His world, however, is colored by his radiant wife, Candy, a woman whose beauty is as alluring as it is dangerous. When Tex stumbles upon Candy's infidelity with a local police officer named Bobo, his world shatters. In a storm of rage and betrayal, he murders her, his butcher-shop knives serving a sinister purpose. Following the gruesome act, Tex dismembers Candy's body, packing the remains into his pick-up truck. He buries her in the vast expanses of the New Mexico desert, believing he has successfully erased the evidence of his crime. Unbeknownst to him, however, a piece of Candy has escaped his careful disposal - a defiant hand, middle-finger raised in a final salute. When this rebellious relic is discovered in a churchyard by a blind woman, it unexpectedly restores her sight. Instantly, the hand is revered as a divine remnant, hailed as the miraculous "hand of the Virgin Mary." The sleepy town is thrown into a whirlwind of religious fervor, media frenzy, and curious tourists, all orchestrated by the town's ambitious mayor, eager to ride the wave of this supernatural spectacle. As the fanfare escalates, the local fallen priest voices his objections, but his warnings are drowned out by the roar of miracle-seekers, TV crews, and opportunistic locals. Amidst the chaos, Tex is plunged into a desperate race against time and suspicion. He must recover the incriminating hand before the sheriff stumbles upon it and unravels the chilling truth behind the town's celebrated miracle.
