Plot

As the glow of summer gently fades, two Parisian relatives, the nearly divorced Marion and her fifteen-year-old cousin Pauline, retreat to their family house nestled a few miles from the tranquil Normandy coast. The anticipation of unhurried days spent on the deserted beach hangs in the air. Pauline, fresh from a two-month vacation with her parents, yearns for a breath of liberation under Marion's guardianship. Their first day on the sandy expanse brings a chance encounter with Pierre, Marion's unfettered former flame who now imparts windsurfing lessons, and his student, the slightly older and divorced Henri. Driven by an invisible bond, the group is drawn together, their interactions becoming increasingly frequent after Henri's adolescent daughter leaves for her mother's home. In the midst of this burgeoning friendship, a conversation on love and sex ignites, illuminating their individual desires and sparking a foreshadowing of their intertwined destinies. Pierre, smitten with Marion after five years apart, longs for a slow-burning love. Marion, on the other hand, is lured by the allure of the unknown, finding Pierre too familiar and Henri intriguingly inscrutable. Henri, a hedonist at heart, seeks physical intimacy without the shackles of commitment, willing to pursue anyone who piques his interest. Meanwhile, the inexperienced Pauline strikes up a friendship with the youthful Sylvain, and feelings begin to blossom. Their budding romance, however, is not immune to the complexities of adult relationships, directly influenced by the adult trio's tangled relations and the revelations from their profound conversation. "Pauline at the Beach" is an intimate exploration of the multitudes of love and desire, the fragility of relationships, and the ripple effect that adult actions and decisions can have on impressionable young hearts. It's a poignant tale of summer love, filled with intrigue, passion, and the harsh lessons of growing up.
