Plot

Set against the backdrop of World War II, Operation Cicero charts the thrilling journey of Ilyas Bazna, known by his pseudonym Cicero - one of history's most enigmatic spies. Born in Pristina in 1904, Bazna finds himself employed as a valet to Sir Hughe Montgomery Knatchbull-Hugessen, the British ambassador to neutral Turkey from 1939. But behind the façade of a loyal servant, Cicero conceals his true identity, meticulously photographing classified documents from the embassy safe. His allegiance seemingly lies with Nazi Germany, as he hands over the films to the former German chancellor Franz von Papen, then serving as the German ambassador in Ankara. The Hitler government rewards his services lavishly, showering him with large sums of British money, albeit counterfeited in Germany. Yet, despite the irrefutable authenticity of his contributions, the Nazi officials in Berlin remain suspicious of Cicero, often overlooking the valuable information he provides. As the story unfolds, the viewer is left questioning Cicero's true motivations. Is he a faithful German spy, or is he covertly working for the Turkish Intelligence (MIT)? Is he driven by the allure of wealth, or is he a man consumed by revenge for the death of his parents? Operation Cicero presents the riveting tale of Ilyas Bazna's life as a double agent in the British Embassy during one of the most tumultuous periods in history. It's a world filled with intrigue and unexpected twists, as Bazna navigates the precarious labyrinth of espionage, where every step could lead to doom or glory.
