On the Ice (2011)

In the remote, frigid wilderness of Barrow, Alaska, two Iñupiaq teenagers, Qalli and Aivaaq have grown into adulthood, their lives woven into the fabric of a close-knit society that balances age-old traditions with the rhythm of hip-hop and the roar of snowmobiles. One frosty morning, a seal hunting expedition with their companion James spirals into violence, and James tragically loses his life. Overcome with terror and guilt, Qalli and Aivaaq hatch a lie, framing the death as a heartbreaking accident. As the icy town of Barrow churns with sorrow and his father's suspicions begin to surface, Qalli finds himself navigating a labyrinth of remorse, grappling with his role in James' demise. For the first time, he finds himself alone, skating on a perilous expanse of existential ice.
