In the year 1939, Richmond Hobson, a man born and bred under the shining chandeliers of Wall Street, trades his business suit for a cowboy hat, fulfilling his lifelong dream. Alongside his wry and weather-beaten partner, Panhandle Phillips, he nurtures a three-year-old ranch amidst the sprawling wilderness of northern British Columbia. His dreams, however, are haunted by the specter of a beautiful, unknown blonde woman. Concurrently, he battles against Roland Tewkesbury, a local banker with a ravenous hunger for Rich's land, offering only meager compensation. As the shadow of war looms, Rich's life takes an unexpected turn when the woman of his dreams materializes in the form of Gloria McIntosh, a headstrong Vancouver debutante. Lost in the whirlwind of romance, Gloria forsakes her privileged existence, plunging headfirst into ranch life as Rich's wife. With the specter of war drafting young men and leaving his workforce depleted, Rich finds himself relying on boys as green as spring grass, and Gloria, whose only equestrian experience is English-style riding. Among this motley crew is Kit, a young hand with secrets buried deep, and Robert McDaniels, a seasoned worker with a past shrouded in whispered tales of infamy. As they strive to keep their fledgling ranch afloat, the intertwined destinies of these unique characters create a rich tapestry of love, ambition, survival, and the relentless pursuit of dreams.
