Plot

In the heart of New York City, Norman Oppenheimer, a small-time operator with grand ambitions, presides over Oppenheimer Strategies, a word-of-mouth venture entrenched in the intertwining worlds of American-Israeli business and politics. As a Jewish fixer, he wades through murky waters, performing tasks others shy away from, tasks they'd rather not be officially linked with. Yet, Norman is not your typical fixer-- he's a shyster, albeit a struggling one. His office lies within the confines of his cell phone, and his satchel, a cosmos of miscellaneous items, serves as his constant companion as he roams the city streets. Norman's currency is connections, the promise of a rendezvous between his guy and the other guy. However, the authenticity of "his guy" is usually as elusive as a mirage, with Norman dropping names he barely knows to weave his network. He concocts tales of personal connections, often involving his late wife and her fictional relationships with significant figures. All it takes is one believer to grow his network from these fabricated stories. An unexpected act of kindness, tinged with a hint of ulterior motive, ushers Norman into a world he'd only dared to dream of. He befriends a young, struggling politician, a bond that transforms into a golden ticket when his new friend ascends to become an influential world leader three years later. Norman's status soars along with his friend's, and he becomes the toast of the town, a bigger fish in an ocean teeming with opportunities. However, the higher he rises, the more exposed he becomes. His network, delicately constructed on a shaky foundation of half-truths and deceit, faces the threat of collapsing under the weight of scrutiny, threatening to pull Norman down into a pit of his own making. Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer is a riveting exploration of ambition, deception, and the fragile nature of connections.
