Plot

Samantha Kinsey, a passionate lover of mystery novels and the proprietor of a quaint, struggling bookshop, decides to orchestrate a publicity stunt to breathe new life into her business. She plans a 'mystery weekend', inviting three renowned and fiercely competitive mystery authors - Maura Hobbs, Angela Cooke, and the elusive Clare Beckman - for a book signing event. Unbeknownst to Samantha, the reclusive Beckman plans to use this occasion to shockingly announce her retirement. However, the thrill of the mystery weekend takes a chilling turn when a gunshot rings through the air during a career photograph session. Beckman narrowly escapes the bullet, but unfortunately, her fate is sealed with a cunningly planted poison. As the plot thickens, the cause of Beckman's demise is revealed to be bee poison, a substance only lethal due to her rare allergy - a secret known to very few. Caught in this real-life whodunit, Samantha finds herself navigating through a murky sea of suspects, motives, and hidden truths. Among the suspects are Dorothy, an old local whose registered weapon matches the gunshot, and her ex Derek. She's determined to risk arrest rather than reveal the truth. Meanwhile, the charming new lawyer in town, Scott Tyler, finds himself involved with both the DA, Cassie, and the recently dumped fiancee of the late Clare, Grant. As Samantha uncovers a web of blackmail, greed, and deceit, she realizes that this real-life mystery far surpasses any she has ever read, providing a thrilling narrative that the late Clare Beckman would have reveled in, had she lived to see it unravel.
