Samantha Kinsey, a passionate lover of mystery novels and the proprietor of a quaint, struggling bookshop, decides to orchestrate a publicity stunt to breathe new life into her business. She plans a 'mystery weekend', inviting three renowned and fiercely competitive mystery authors - Maura Hobbs, Angela Cooke, and the elusive Clare Beckman - for a book signing event. Unbeknownst to Samantha, the reclusive Beckman plans to use this occasion to shockingly announce her retirement.
However, the thrill of the mystery weekend takes a chilling turn when a gunshot rings through the air during a career photograph session. Beckman narrowly escapes the bullet, but unfortunately, her fate is sealed with a cunningly planted poison. Meanwhile, the charming new lawyer in town, Scott Tyler, finds himself involved with both the DA, Cassie, and the recently dumped fiancee of the late Clare, Grant.
