Plot

As the school year draws to a close, 19-year-old Christian and his younger sister Sofie, along with their tight-knit group of friends, prepare for the final stretch of exams before they can embrace the intoxicating freedom of graduation. Amidst the study sessions and anticipation, a party unfolds, serving as the ideal diversion for the pressure-cooker of academic stress. However, the revelry takes a tragic turn when Sofie, in an inexplicable act, commits suicide in the upstairs bathroom. With final exams and graduation behind them, the shadow of Sofie's unexplained suicide hangs heavy over the group, particularly Christian. Plagued by guilt and confusion, he's convinced that Sofie was desperately trying to communicate something before her untimely death. Despite the lingering sorrow, life pushes forward, and the group decides to embark on their traditional midsummer trip to Sweden, a ritualistic celebration of their bond. However, this trip is different. The absence of Sofie creates a palpable void, but the friends do their best to immerse themselves in the celebration. Hope flickers when Christian's long-held feelings for the captivating Trine seem to be reciprocated, promising a glimmer of happiness amidst the gloom. But the tranquility is short-lived as Christian begins to experience unsettling phenomena - a haunting sense of Sofie's presence, an inexplicable feeling that she has returned from the grave. Is it a manifestation of Christian's profound guilt and anguish over Sofie's death? Or has Sofie's spirit truly returned, insistent that her death should not remain a mystery? As they navigate the eerie shadows of the Swedish forest, an ominous truth lurks, ready to shatter their reality. This midsummer trip becomes a journey like no other, marking a chilling transformation in their lives. Those who return home will find themselves forever changed, forever haunted by this midsummer nightmare.
