Messages (2007)

In the misty expanses of England, American pathologist Dr. Richard Murray finds himself grappling with the ghost of his past, eight months following the tragic demise of his wife, Carol, in a horrifying car collision. Haunted by the specter of guilt, his life is slowly eroded by the relentless waves of whiskey, a futile attempt to drown the remorse of a clandestine love affair he had while Carol was away. His nights, shrouded in alcohol-induced blackouts, erase memories of his actions, leaving him in a constant state of disarray. Simultaneously, a sinister shadow descends upon the town as a serial killer begins to prey on unsuspecting women, instilling a climate of fear and uncertainty. To combat this growing menace, the local law enforcement turn to seasoned American detective DCI Collins and the insightful psychologist Frances Beale, hoping their expertise can lead them to the heart of this dark mystery. Amidst this turmoil, Dr. Murray starts receiving cryptic messages from the beyond, a development that sends him spiraling further into confusion. In search of answers and a semblance of peace, he turns to his old confidant, Father Randall, hoping to unearth the meanings behind these supernatural communications, and perhaps, find a path to redemption.
