Plot

In the quaint, frost-kissed town of Long Bay, the death of Donald Foley, a lifelong curler and celebrated coach, sets off a chain of unexpected events. Donald's last wish, outlined in his peculiar will, is to have his ashes encased in a specially retrieved curling stone, which he dreams of becoming the winning shot at the coveted Golden Broom Bonspiel. His final hope lies in rallying his last coached team, a group of misfits that once came tantalisingly close to glory, but have since separated, their curling dreams gathering dust over a decade. The ragtag team is now weathered by life's trials, each member grappling with his own intricate web of personal complications. Lead Neil Bucyk, ensnared in a marriage dominated by his assertive wife Linda, must navigate the currents of his life dictated by his wife's family funeral business. Eddie Strombeck, the second member, is consumed by his pursuit of fatherhood with his wife Lilly, their long-standing attempts at conception a constant rollercoaster. Then there's James Lennox, a drug dealer, who returns to town with a new girlfriend and a debt that keeps him on the run. Yet, the most intriguing piece of this puzzle is Chris Cutter, the team's estranged skip, who abandoned his hometown and the team out of guilt. His slip-up at the last bonspiel a decade ago left him haunted, eventually leading to his self-imposed exile to the Alberta oil patch. His return to Long Bay not only stirs up old memories but also reopens old wounds, especially with Donald's daughters, Julie and Amy Foley. As the team struggles to reignite their lost curling prowess, they must also contend with the formidable Butte team, led by the charismatic Alexander Yount, a group revered as rockstars in the curling world. The road to the championship is steep and icy, but with a little help from Gordon Cutter, Chris's estranged father and the town's curling expert, they might just have a shot at honouring their late coach's final wish. In this charmingly offbeat comedy, "Men with Brooms" traces the bittersweet journey of a reunited curling team as they juggle their tangled personal lives while striving for an elusive championship, all under the shadow of their late coach's dying wish. Will they rediscover their unity and passion for the game, or will their personal demons and formidable rivals sweep them off their feet?
