Plot

In the haunting hours of night, a man's life is brutally extinguished, seemingly at the hands of his own wife, Helena. Thrust into the heart of this chilling enigma is Dr. Kate Fuller, a rookie criminal psychologist, whose task is to unravel whether Helena is a murderer or a victim of her own mind's darkness. As she navigates through the labyrinth of truth and deception, Kate makes a solemn vow to Helena's eight-year-old daughter, Sophie - to keep her mother by her side. However, the case takes a sinister turn when Helena reveals her tormentor - a malevolent ancient demon that strikes its victims in the vulnerable realm of sleep paralysis. Dismissing Helena's claims as delusions, Kate consigns her to an institution, but the seed of curiosity has been planted. As she delves deeper into the eerie world of sleep demons, Kate begins to experience the same bone-chilling symptoms that have marked all previous victims. Caught in a terrifying nightmare that blurs the line between reality and imagination, Kate must wage a desperate battle against time and fear. With Sophie's innocent life hanging in the balance, she must unravel the demon's ancient secrets and find a way to defeat it. But as the darkness creeps in, the rules of the game change – sleep becomes a luxury she cannot afford, for to sleep is to become the demon's prey. In a pulse-pounding race between wakefulness and death, Kate must confront her darkest fears and outwit an ancient evil before she dares fall asleep again. 'Mara' is a terrifying journey into the unknown, where the most primal fears are awakened in the dead of night.
