Plot
In the gritty streets of Gunsan, Tae-il, a hardened 42-year-old thug, reigns as a relentless debt collector for a small-time gang. His life, spent in the shadows of his neighborhood, is devoid of love and littered with intimidation and coercion. He shares his dwelling with his brother Young-il, a humble barber, and his family, offering a stark contrast to his own notorious existence.
Tae-il's hardened exterior begins to crack when he encounters Ho-jung, a modest bank clerk struggling beneath the weight of her terminally ill father's enormous debt. Their initial encounter is tinged with Tae-il's cruel practicality, as he forces her to sign a ruthless contract pledging her organs against the inability to repay. However, this interaction unknowingly ignites a spark within Tae-il, causing him to rethink his ruthless tactics and his solitary life.
In an unexpected turn of events, Tae-il finds himself relentlessly drawn towards Ho-jung. Overwhelmed by newfound emotions, he revises their agreement, proposing a unique contract - a date for debt relief. Initially, Ho-jung rejects his offer, but faced with the harsh reality of her financial situation, she acquiesces, marking the beginning of an unusual romance.
As they navigate through a series of awkward encounters, a tender love story begins to unfold between the rugged debt-collector and the soft-spoken bank clerk. Inspired by love, Tae-il attempts to extricate himself from the clutches of his gang affiliations, but his past refuses to release its grip so easily. The plot thickens when Tae-il is diagnosed with terminal illness, throwing his newfound love and redemption into a whirlwind of uncertainty.
"Man in Love" echoes with the struggles of life, the power of love, and the pursuit of redemption, weaving a poignant tale set amidst life's harsh realities.
