Plot

In the throes of a fresh divorce, Paul Weaver, a thirty-seven-year-old former baseball star now languishing as an insurance salesman, finds himself grappling with the loss of his only true love, Nancy. His penchant for casual flings, a refuge from the complexities of love, has led to the dissolution of their marriage. Despite the looming specter of encountering Nancy, Paul treks from the bustling heart of New York City to his tranquil hometown in Pennsylvania, drawn by the impending wedding of his sister, Karen. Unbeknownst to Paul, his arrival is marked by an unexpected reunion. Nancy, alongside their teenage son David and spirited preteen daughter Sarah, has sought temporary refuge in his childhood home. As Paul navigates this delicate situation, he finds himself in the midst of marital struggles that echo his own. His father, Boomer, finds solace in the numbing embrace of alcohol, while his mother, Ruth, struggles to keep the family afloat. Amidst the wedding preparations, Karen finds herself questioning her impending marriage to Doug Whipkey, plagued by the fear that his flaws outweigh his virtues. Susan Volcheck, Karen's bridesmaid, teeters on the edge of despair, convinced that her husband's work trips to Wheeling, West Virginia, are a cover for his infidelity. As Susan contemplates seeking solace in Paul's arms, Paul must reconcile with his past and navigate the complex web of relationships that surround him. "Love Hurts" paints an intricate portrait of love, betrayal, and the quest for redemption, exploring the complexities of marriage and the pain of infidelity, all set against the backdrop of a small-town family reunion.
