Lord of Illusions (1995)

In the shadowed underbelly of Los Angeles, New York private investigator Harry D’Amour unwittingly stumbles into a web of dark intrigue and occult fanaticism. His regular case spirals into a supernatural confrontation when he crosses paths with members of a sinister cult, holdovers of a group once led by Nix, a malevolent cult leader vested with eerie powers. Nix, gunned down thirteen years prior by his star apprentice Swann, is now the object of a chilling prophecy of resurrection. In the intervening years, Swann has metamorphosed into an illustrious illusionist, his fame rivaling the likes of David Copperfield. He shares his life with the enigmatic Dorothea, a woman bound to him by a shared, haunting past. As a child, Dorothea played a pivotal role in Nix’s demise, having been a hostage in his clutches, only to assist in his brutal execution. When former cult members associated with the now illustrious illusionist Swann are threatened by a disciple of Nix, one who revels in cruelty and sadism, Dorothea seeks D'Amour's help. She employs his knack for the occult and investigative prowess to protect Swann from the looming shadow of the cult. However, when Swann falls victim to one of his own illusions, the scenario takes a harrowing turn, with sparks igniting between the widowed Dorothea and D'Amour. As the plot unfurls, D'Amour finds himself entangled deeper in a world where illusion and reality blur, where past sins cast long shadows, and where a dead man's prophecy of resurrection threatens to unleash a torrent of darkness.
