Plot

In the suburban canvas of Port Chester, New York, 1974, a young and ambitious artist, John Talia, navigates the turbulence of his relationship with his insecure father who fails to comprehend his extraordinary talent. An unexpected beacon of inspiration emerges when John discovers the residence of his idol, the renowned but reclusive Russian painter Nicoli Seroff, living in obscurity nearby. Painted in the hues of bitterness and drenched in alcohol, Nicoli is a man haunted by the loss of his wife Anya, his life seemingly devoid of purpose. Despite his hardened exterior, John manages to cultivate a bond with the master, a relationship that slowly breathes life back into both their worlds. When the summer air lures Nicoli to the tranquil landscapes of Pennsylvania, he invites John along, offering to guide him through the intricate maze of artistry. The countryside unravels new relationships and challenges for John. He encounters Carla, a neighbor enveloped in the grief of losing her son, and Curtis Sunday, a haughty art critic and an old friend of Nicoli. As the summer progresses, the connection between the old master and the young apprentice deepens, transforming their lives in profound ways. Through Nicoli's seasoned gaze, John learns to perceive the world in bold strokes and vibrant colors. Simultaneously, Nicoli rediscovers life's vibrancy, viewing it through the innocent lens that John provides. A poignant tale inspired by real-life events, Local Color weaves a narrative of an unlikely friendship that gifts each other an invaluable perspective. It's a story of resilience, the transformative power of art, and the timeless exchange between the wisdom of age and the vigor of youth.
