Lifeboat (1944)

On the tumultuous seas of World War II, a brutal encounter between a freighter and a German U-boat sends both vessels to the depths of the Atlantic. Struggling against the merciless ocean, survivors from disparate walks of life find refuge on a solitary lifeboat. Among them is the sharp-tongued columnist Constance Porter, the ship's pragmatic engineer Kovac, radio operator Stanley Garrett, caring nurse Alice MacKenzie, millionaire Charles "Ritt" Rittenhouse, the sturdy seaman Gus Smith, humble steward Joe, and the distraught Englishwoman Mrs. Higley clutching her lifeless child. When the magnitude of loss prompts Mrs. Higley to surrender herself to the sea, the survivors are starkly reminded of their shared fate. In the face of adversity and death, these strangers from different social and economic strata cast aside their differences, uniting in a desperate bid for survival. Yet, he has a compass, the strength to row, and a potential rescue in the form of a German supply ship. Despite their apprehension, the survivors are left with no choice but to trust the enemy and place their lives in his hands.
