In an era steeped in ancient lore, the ruthless warrior Hagen relentlessly pursues Queen Karin and her young son Moki, intending to wed her and seize the throne left vacant by her husband, King Arald. Forced into a life of obscurity, Karin and Moki seek refuge in a secluded woodland cottage, their royal lineage obscured by the guise of common peasantry.
Their sanctuary is fortified by an enigmatic protector, Helmut, a master of knife combat. Moki, drawn to Helmut's strength and wisdom, becomes his eager apprentice, learning the arts of hunting and combat. Amidst the harsh realities of their new life, Karin reveals the tragic tale of her husband's voyage overseas in search of sustenance for their famine-stricken kingdom. His ship was lost to the unforgiving coast of Britain, and no word of his fate has reached them since.
The sinister Hagen, once a truce-bound ally, is revealed to be the architect of their despair. He violated the peace pact between the kingdoms of Arald and King Rurik, a transgression that cost Rurik his wife and son. Infuriated and vengeful, Rurik's hordes invaded Karin's kingdom, slaughtering innocents and subjecting the women, including Karin, to unspeakable horrors.
A new figure enters this tangled web of treachery and revenge—Rurik, a mysterious guardian who swears to shield Karin from Hagen's clutches. The stage is thus set for a brutal showdown, where the destinies of kingdoms hang in the balance, old scores demand settlement, and the knives of the avenger await their moment of reckoning.
