Plot

In the chilling dawn of September 17, 1939, the Soviet Union invades Poland, ripping apart the life of Anna Aleksandrowna. Leaving her home in Krakow in a desperate search for her husband, the gallant Polish Captain Andrzej, she finds him ensnared by the Red Army. However, their reunion is fleeting as Andrzej is hastily thrust into a train destined for Kozelsk, a bleak prison camp in the heart of Russia. Now, Anna and her young daughter Nika find themselves marooned in the Soviet-occupied territory, their path to Krakow, now under German control, barred. Their predicament persists until a daring Russian captain engineers their escape. Meanwhile, Andrzej is shipped off to the infamous Katyn Forest on April 3, 1940, where the lives of thousands of Polish officers are brutally snuffed out. Fast forward to 1943, the Germans seize control of the area, discovering the grim mass graves. Through the mournful drone of loudspeakers in Krakow, they begin to announce the names of the identified victims. A spark of hope is ignited in Anna's heart as Andrzej's name is conspicuously absent from the grim roll call of the dead. The wheel of time turns to January 18, 1945, and the Red Army wrestles Krakow from the grasp of the Nazis. In a twisted attempt to rewrite history, they pin the Katyn Massacre on the Germans, insisting it occurred in 1941 rather than 1940. The public is privy to this grim farce, but those who dare to challenge the Soviet narrative find themselves ensnared in a perilous game, facing imprisonment or worse at the hands of the Red Army.
